Actor Vijay’s 58th film, a fantasy drama, has been titled Puli.
After several reports about the film’s title, which ranged from Garuda to Maru Dheeran, Puli was finally confirmed on Jan 4th,2015.
“It gives us immense pleasure and happiness to announce the title as Puli for our most prestigious project with Vijay and director Chimbudevan,” said a statement from the film’s production house SKT Studios. The update appeared on the actor’s Twitter page.
The movie will see actor Sridevi playing Hansika Motwani’s mother. Sridevi, who is making a comeback in the industry after a while, will don the role of a queen, while Haniska will play a princess.
Ever since the film went on floors, there has been a lot of speculation about the project, which is a milestone in the Ilayathalapathy’s career.
The film also stars Shruti Haasan and Sudeep. Reports earlier suggested that Kannada actor Sudeep will be playing the role of Vijay’s mentor and that the film is about the tussle between the disciple and his guru. However, not much is known about Shruti’s role. The film is jointly being produced by Shibu Thameens and P T. Selvakumar. Devi Sri Prasad has been roped in to compose the tunes for Puli and National-award winning lyricist Vairamuthu is penning the lyrics for the flick which is the first collaboration between Vijay and Chimbudevan.
Chimbudevan earlier made flicks like Arai En 305-il Kadavul, Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi and Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaniyum.
Talks are on about Puli’s Hindi version as Eros International has shown interest in acquiring the rights for the film.
