Vijay's philanthropic activities

It is believed that audience likes actor Vijay because of his helping tendency. The yesteryear superstar MGR had that close bonding with the audience. Actor MGR and Ranjikanth is his inspiration. Similarly, after MGR its Vijay who has bonding with the people. Vijay has also received an honorary doctorate from MGR University for his philanthropic works.Vijay started a social welfare organization known as Vijay Makkal Iyakkam which was officially launched at Pudukottai on 26 July 2009.His Makkal Iyakkam is responsible for most of the philanthropic activities conducted by the star. After Cyclone Thane his Makkal Mandram administrators arranged for a function at Kammiyampettai, Cuddalore where the star distributed five kilos of rice to the affected people. Cuddalore was the worst affected area in floods and Vijay reached out to help. 
Vijay has appeared along with actor Suriya, R. Madhavan and Jyothika in a short commercial video about child poverty, labour and lack of education, produced by Surya in an effort to help children who drop out of school at an early age. It is a social activity of Agaram foundation. On his every birthday, Vijay presents gold rings to the new born babies at Egmore Government General Hospital.
Every year Vijay has been seen providing funds for educating more than 30 children. He conducted many free weddings in his own kalyana mandapam called J.S.Kalyana mandapam,  in vadapalani.  He donated upto 3 lakhs to put up streetlights for a famous shiva temple in Kaveripattinam .Vijay offers support to many deserving students to pursue higher studies and recently, on November 7th getting to know about  , Fathima, an engineering student who is struggling to continue her studies. Vijay called her family and promised them that he will take care of all her educational costs.
